Homework Help

Every Wednesday from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Free tutoring for elementary, middle, and high school students living in Speedway at the Speedway Public Library! Homework Help is not held on holidays or school vacation days.

Computers

PLEASE NOTE: All Internet and Guest Pass computers are shut down and unavailable 10 minutes before the library closes.

Sixteen computers with access to the Internet are available for public use. Twelve of the computers are for use by cardholders over the age of eighteen, three stations are reserved for use by cardholders ages 12-17, and one station reserved for use for cardholders under the age of 12. All Internet computers have Microsoft Word 2007, Micrsoft Excel 2007, Microsoft Powerpoint 2007, and Microsoft Publisher 2007. Anyone with a valid Speedway Library card may use the Internet. A time limit of one hour is enforced when there is a wait for Internet computers. There are four computers with access to the Internet available to non-card holders. These guest computers may be used for twenty minutes. Anyone wishing to use the Internet must agree to abide by the Electronic Use Policy. When all computers are full, patrons may reserve a computer on site, but no reservations will be taken over the telephone.

Guest Pass

PLEASE NOTE: No guest passes will be issued 20 minutes before the library closes
Guest passes for the Internet/Word Processing stations will be issued to people who are non Speedway residents. Guest passes may be issued for 20 minutes. If no other patrons have reservations, the system will extend the guest pass by 10 minutes. Guest passes are issued only once a day per person.

Typewriter

A public typewriter is also available. Reservations will be taken over the phone or in person. A two hour time limit for cardholders and a twenty minute time limit for guests will be enforced. Anyone who wishes to use the typewriter must sign in at the front desk and agree to the Electronic Use Policy.

Tutor Room

Tutor rooms are available for a maximum of 2 hours per day. The tutor room may be reserved by Speedway residents, non-resident card holders, or state-wide card (Public Library Access Card) holders. Others may use the tutor room as ‘walk-ins’. To use a room please ask at the Circulation Desk.

Wireless Internet

The Speedway Public Library now offers wireless Internet access to patrons and visitors. Access is available throughout the library on an unsecured 802.11b/g network. The wireless network allows patrons and visitors to use laptops and other wireless devices to access the Internet. Instructions for connecting to the wireless network are available at the circulation desk. The wireless network is provided under a grant supported by the Institute of Museums and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Indiana State Library.
